Steve is a BAR certified Smog technician, an ASE Master Certified Auto Technician and is the designated NATEF certified substitute for auto classes held at College of the Canyons located in the Santa Clarita Community College District. His teaching experience has resulted in his authoring and development of various educational materials and handouts some of which are included here for a free download. The following is the introduction for an Engine Systems and Maintenance Class he’s developing at this time: “This course covers automotive systems dealing with a vehicle’s engine and associated operating systems. Focus is given to diagnosis and repair of engine ignition, fuel, starting and charging, computer emissions, and other vehicular electrical/electronic systems. Diagnosis and repair including theory of operation of engine mechanical, cooling and lubrication systems is covered as well. This class is designed for those desiring to acquire in- depth knowledge of engine operating characteristics including diagnostic procedures of the various engine mechanical and management systems. It includes auxiliary systems such as supercharging and turbocharging, electrical circuit theory and diagnosis, and the use of more sophisticated tools and diagnostic equipment such as special hand tools, pressure gauges, scan tools, electrical meters and oscilloscopes. The information and practical experience contained in this course will provide needed instruction for those desiring to understand the function, diagnosis and repair of these automotive systems and help to prepare those considering a career in the field of automotive technology.
